Potluck CANCELLED!

Potluck cancelled!

The potluck for this Sunday, Sept. 29, has been cancelled. Sunday services are still as scheduled. We will be having morning prayer, with Bruce Cory preaching on how evil money is. (Not really, but pretty close. Come to hear the full sermon Sunday!)

The parish hall air conditioner is experiencing a malfunction. This only affects the kitchen and front half of the hall, but that is sufficient to make it uncomfortable, particularly for anyone working in the kitchen.

Donna, the Junior Warden, and the vestry are working on getting the air conditioner repaired or replaced as soon as possible.

Sept. 23 Special Potluck and Celebration

Celebration Potluck! We are transferring the monthly potluck to Sept. 23 to celebrate the ministry of Fr. Terry Taylor.

Sept. 23 will be Fr. Terry’s last Sunday serving as regular supply priest for St. John’s. He has been a great blessing to us, and now we thank him and send him forth with our blessing as he takes some time to rest and relax in his second retirement from active ministry.

New Time for Christian Formation

Beginning this Sunday, September 2, the Christian Formation (Sunday School) group will be meeting at 9:45-10:30 am.

We decided to move back the Christian Formation time to allow those who serve at the altar time to prepare and so that we can be more hospitable to those arriving for the 11:00 am service.

Sunday Potluck

The Big PotluckThis Sunday, December 11, is our monthly potluck and annual parish meeting. Don’t let that scare you! Please come and share in the food, fun, and discussion about leadership and the direction for St. John’s in the coming year.

Please Read – Don’t forget your canned food!

Don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food item in each hand to church this Sunday! Camille Ruddick has challenged us all to bring a canned food item in each hand every Sunday for God’s Pantry at Corbin Presbyterian Church. The collection basket has fallen into disuse, and she has encouraged us to recommit to helping keep it filled.

Based on data collected by Feeding America, Knox county currently has a food insecurity rate of 21.5%, which leaves 6,860 people in our county as living with food insecurity. Food insecurity is defined as a household lacking access to enough food for an active, healthy life for all members of the household. Persons living with food insecurity often need to choose between food, health care, housing, transportation to work, and other necessities. Compare our 21.5% rate with the nationwide rate of 14%, and the average Kentucky rate of 16.4%. There is a significant issue with food insecurity in Knox county, and we can help make a difference for these households.
