According to the Outline of the Faith, commonly called the Catechism, found in the Book of Common Prayer, the ministers of the church are “lay persons, bishops, priests and deacons.” As members of a small congregation, the lay members of the church play a very important role in the ministry and leadership of the congregation.

Priest-in-charge: |
The Rev. Bruce W. Cory has been called as part-time priest-in-charge for St. John’s as part of the Southern Tier Ministry Cooperative. Bruce has been a member of St. John’s since 2010. He began discernment for ordained ministry as part of the mutual ministry process that St. John’s has implemented. Bruce was ordained a deacon in June of 2025 and as a priest in December of 2025. As full-time priest-in-charge for the cooperative, Bruce serves as part-time clergy with Christ Church – Harlan, St. John’s – Corbin, and St. Mary’s – Middlesboro. |
